Kostiantyn Kovalchuk took part in the Czech-Ukrainian forum on the restoration of water infrastructure
On March 11, 2025, the Czech-Ukrainian Water Management Forum "Water. Infrastructure. Cooperation" was held in Kyiv. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Kostiantyn Kovalchuk, the Commissioner of the Government of the Czech Republic for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Tomasz Kopechny, representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine, Ukrainian and Czech companies, as well as experts in the water sector.
The forum discussed the progress of Czech projects in Ukraine and the possibilities for developing cooperation at the business and government levels. The Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Kostiantyn Kovalchuk thanked the Czech people and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine for their support. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation in restoring the water infrastructure of Ukraine, which was damaged by military operations.
“The war has significantly complicated the provision of high-quality drinking water to Ukrainians. Hostilities and attacks on infrastructure have led to destruction, power outages, and reduced efficiency of water supply systems. Therefore, cooperation with international partners, in particular with the Czech Republic, is important for the restoration of water supply and wastewater disposal in Ukraine. The Czech Republic has successfully modernized its water infrastructure, and this experience can be very useful for us, in particular in the context of bringing Ukrainian legislation into line with EU requirements for further European integration,” said Kostiantyn Kovalchuk.
The Deputy Minister also drew attention to the importance of not only technical and methodological support from Czech partners, but also their efforts in developing and implementing key projects for the restoration of water infrastructure. He also emphasized the need for investments, technical support, and bringing Ukrainian legislation into line with European standards to improve the situation.
Within the framework of the forum, the Ukrainian association “Ukrvodokanalekologiya” signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Czech association SOVAK ČR. The document will facilitate the exchange of experience in the development of regulatory and technical documents in accordance with EU requirements, the introduction of new technologies, reconstruction and modernization of infrastructure. Training of specialists and joint events are also planned: conferences, forums, seminars. In addition, cooperation will help improve the work of enterprises in the industry and attract investments.
Czech partners shared their experience in restoring water drainage and sewage systems, as well as successful practices in reconstructing water supply networks in the Czech Republic. In addition, they outlined opportunities for Czech business in Ukraine and presented information about Czech companies and water utilities that plan to cooperate with Ukrainian partners.
