Ukraine and Denmark strengthen cooperation in support and recovery
First Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Aliona Shkrum and Deputy Minister Maryna Denysiuk met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Ole Egberg Mikkelsen. Key topics of the event included the Strategy of Danish-Ukrainian Cooperation for 2025-2028, the restoration of the maritime industry, and support for the city of Mykolaiv, in particular, in the field of water supply.
“Denmark is our reliable partner. Just recently, meetings were held on cooperation in the areas of water and heat supply. We are in constant communication. And this is a real example of how international partners can coordinate their efforts to help Ukraine. There is already a Strategy for Danish-Ukrainian Cooperation, which clearly defines Ukraine's needs and its strategic goals. There are noticeable results in supporting the regions. And I am convinced that our joint work will be a significant step towards strengthening and restoring Ukraine,” emphasized Aliona Shkrum.
The participants discussed cooperation in the areas of water supply and sanitation, electricity supply, and the provision of support and technical assistance. Considerable attention was paid to the issue of involving Danish experts in the development of design and estimate documentation for the restoration of water supply systems.
The parties also discussed support for the city of Mykolaiv, in particular, in the field of water supply. Currently, the Agency for Restoration is implementing a project to build a water pipeline. Denmark, for its part, has expressed its readiness to provide modular equipment necessary for water purification and supply.
Another topic of the meeting was the maritime industry. The Ukrainian-Estonian Plan for the Restoration of the Maritime Industry of Ukraine has been developed. It, in particular, covers key areas of the maritime industry of Ukraine, including shipbuilding, fleet modernization, port development, demining of the water area, job creation and marine research.
Denmark, Norway and other countries should also join the implementation of this plan in order to achieve pan-European maritime security.
“Denmark’s support is also important for us in terms of transparency in project implementation. Our Ministry, together with the Agency for Recovery, implements the largest number of recovery and reconstruction projects at both the national and local levels. We coordinate IFI projects and monitor their implementation. Therefore, we must be open and transparent for all Ukrainians. And we are confident that Denmark’s experience in these matters will help us,” emphasized Maryna Denysiuk.
Following the meeting, representatives of Ukraine and Denmark agreed on areas of further cooperation, resource and expert assistance, and also agreed on the continuation of comprehensive support from the Danish side.
