Ukraine and Japan establish cooperation to involve the private sector in reconstruction
The second meeting of the Japan-Ukraine Platform on the Infrastructure Technology for Recovery and Reconstruction (JUPITeR) was held at the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories. It was hosted by Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Maryna Denysiuk. Among those present were representatives of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan and 23 Japanese businesses from various fields that are ready to join the reconstruction of Ukraine.
The focus of the discussion with Japanese partners was the search for new ways to attract business and potential sectors for cooperation.
“We continue to work with Japanese business within the framework of JUPITeR. In January, we launched the platform, now together we are developing specific cooperation mechanisms to build partnerships between Ukrainian and Japanese businesses. We are glad to welcome the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan and representatives of 23 companies here. It is important for us to be in constant communication with the private sector in order to develop solutions that will meet the current needs of recovery. We are grateful to the companies that are already ready to actively participate in the reconstruction. The expertise of these businesses in the field of engineering, logistics, transport, urban development and innovative construction solutions will play an important role in shaping the recovery of Ukraine. In the future, we plan to attract even more representatives of the private sector to implement joint projects,” said Maryna Denysiuk.
During the meeting, company representatives spoke about themselves and their opportunities to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine. They showed examples of how they are already implementing projects in Japan and outlined how similar initiatives can be implemented in Ukraine. In particular, these include engineering solutions, logistics, green energy solutions, and other large infrastructure projects.
Maryna Denisyuk, in turn, spoke about the main priorities of reconstruction for 2025. She separately noted that one of the main directions of the Ministry remains the reconstruction of housing. She emphasized that during her visit to Japan she had seen firsthand examples of urban reconstruction and noted that Japan's expertise in this area could be applied in Ukrainian cities.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized that Ukraine is committed to effective project management, strategic planning and open investment mechanisms, in particular through the Single Project Pipeline (SPP) and the DREAM digital ecosystem.
Among the businesses present at the meeting were Hazama Ando Corporation, Eight-Japan Engineering Consultants Inc., GIKEN Ltd, Daiwa Tec Co. Ltd., Nippon Koei, NEWJEC Inc., Padeco, Fujita Corporation, GIKEN SEKO Co. Ltd., SEAPREX Inc., ITOCHU Corporation, Nippon Express Holdings, JDC Corporation, Kokudo Kaihatsu Industry Co. Ltd., Yachiyo Engineering Co. Ltd. and others.
The parties agreed to continue cooperation at subsequent similar meetings, in particular to consider in more detail projects of common interest from the list included in the Single Project Pipeline, which representatives of the Japanese private sector can join.
