Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration – Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksii Kuleba, together with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team, visited the village of Yahidne in Chernihiv region on the third anniversary of its liberation.

In 2022, during the month-long occupation in Yahidne, 366 people, including children and elderly residents, were locked by russians in a cramped basement of a school. Of these, 10 people died.

As part of the visit, Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with a family that survived these events and remained to live in Yahydne. The family's home has already been restored.

"The entire village is being restored - out of 150 damaged and 16 destroyed houses, 56 have already been rebuilt. Work is actively underway. It is important that, despite the terrible events of the occupation, Yagodne, like all other deoccupied villages and cities, returns to life. To do this, we are rebuilding not only housing, but also social infrastructure. We strive to do it better than before, in particular, for example, we take into account energy efficiency standards. Recently, a street lighting network was installed in Yagodne, solar panels were connected, roads and sidewalks are being restored. The plans are to rebuild the school and reconstruct the local club-library, which was destroyed by the russian federation. We are also working on the energy independence of the village," said Oleksii Kuleba.

The Minister noted that this spring, an Urban Park for children and youth will be built in Yagodne. It will include a sports and playground, walking paths, and a green area.

A separate memorial complex will also be built at the site of the russian crimes. Oleksii Kuleba emphasized that memorialization is extremely important in order to preserve the memory of the price at which Ukrainian independence is being fought.

During the trip, Volodymyr Zelenskyy also met with the heads of communities of the Chernihiv Region.

“We talked about what concerns people – the restoration of damaged infrastructure, providing housing for those who lost it, supporting businesses and social payments for residents of communities living close to the border.
More than 80% of infrastructure facilities that were destroyed as a result of the war in the region have already been rebuilt or are in the process of being restored.
However, the region is constantly under threat – since the beginning of the year, two civilians have died and 26 others have been injured as a result of enemy attacks,” Oleksii Kuleba noted.

The President of Ukraine emphasized the need to allocate additional funds to support all border and frontline communities of the Chernihiv Region.

During the meeting, they also discussed Ukraine's efforts to establish a just and sustainable peace and obtain reliable security guarantees.
