During the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC), international financial support for Ukrzaliznytsia totalling approximately USD 18 million was announced. These decisions are the result of the systematic work of the teams of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, Ukrzaliznytsia, and international partners.

The funding will be directed towards protecting critical infrastructure, enhancing operational safety, modernising diagnostic systems, improving accessibility, and further integrating Ukraine's railway into the European transport network.

One of the key decisions was the allocation of an additional grant under the RELINC project, implemented with the support of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction and Reform Trust Fund (URTF).

«The additional USD 10 million grant is an investment in protecting critical railway infrastructure that operates every day under the threat of attacks. These funds will strengthen the security of key facilities, ensure the uninterrupted operation of the railway, maintain stable passenger services, and support evacuation and humanitarian missions», – said Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.

Ukrzaliznytsia will also secure approximately EUR 6 million in grant funding under a joint project with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. within the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 programme. The project provides for the modernisation of infrastructure on Line No. 101 in Werchrata (Poland) and at Lviv Railway Station. For passengers, this will mean barrier-free access to trains through raised platforms, the construction of lifts and escalators, and improved station facilities for persons with disabilities, parents with prams, and other people with reduced mobility.

Another area of cooperation will be a project to prepare for the deployment of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) on Ukraine's railway network, which Ukrzaliznytsia will implement together with Swedfund International AB. Approximately EUR 1 million in grant funding is expected to be mobilised for this purpose. The project includes the preparation of a pre-feasibility study and a step-by-step implementation roadmap for ERTMS, one of the key elements of integrating Ukraine's railway into the Single European Transport Area.

The international support secured will not only help restore and protect critical infrastructure during the war but will also enable the continued strategic modernisation of Ukraine's railway in line with European standards.
