During the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine — Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba held a meeting with the Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport of Germany, Patrick Schnieder.

The parties discussed support for Ukraine’s transport sector, infrastructure recovery, logistics development, and the launch of the Ukraine Transport Support Fund.

Prior to the meeting, during a high-level roundtable, Germany announced its readiness to contribute to the Fund — a mechanism supporting the recovery of Ukraine’s transport infrastructure.

“We discussed in detail the next steps and the selection of projects for support. We agreed to finalise decisions in the near future and move to practical implementation. Germany remains one of Ukraine’s key partners in restoring transport infrastructure and developing a new logistics architecture between Ukraine and Europe,” said Oleksii Kuleba. 

The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the German government for its systematic support of Ukraine’s transport sector.

In particular, Ukraine recently received the first 13 vehicles for Ukrainian railway workers from German partners. Overall, the assistance package includes 18 vehicles, 32 generators, and 18 units of construction equipment for transport infrastructure needs.

Special attention during the meeting was given to the resilience of Ukraine’s logistics system and the scale of damage caused to transport infrastructure as a result of Russian aggression. 

The parties also discussed further cooperation in the railway sector, the renewal of Ukrzaliznytsia rolling stock, and possible financing mechanisms for the purchase of new electric locomotives.
