A meeting with the Romanian delegation was held at the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine. The parties discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of maritime security, particularly within the framework of the establishment of the Black Sea Maritime Security Hub — an initiative of the European Union aimed at enhancing the safety of maritime routes, protecting critical infrastructure, and promoting regional cooperation in the Black Sea area.
The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Andrii Kashuba.
The Romanian delegation included Victor Micula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine; Anamaria Sandor, Deputy Head of Mission; Adrian-Gheorghe Scutaru, Co-founder and Executive Director of the New Strategy Center (Romania); Razvan Maties, EU Funding Expert; and Kateryna Dadiverina, International Relations Expert at the New Strategy Center.
The Romanian representatives emphasized the importance of involving Ukraine in the work of the Hub, taking into account its experience in ensuring the security of maritime routes during the war. They invited Ukraine to delegate experts to participate in joint exercises and expressed confidence that this cooperation would be beneficial for Ukraine, Romania, and the entire European Union.
The parties also discussed navigation on the Danube River and opportunities for supporting and protecting the region.
«We understand the strategic importance of developing navigation on the Danube. We are working to ensure maximum safety of navigation and to protect our people in ports and at sea. Our goal is to make Ukrainian ports safe and reliable, even in wartime conditions. The recent attacks on port and urban infrastructure along the Danube once again confirm how crucial it is to strengthen cooperation with partners in the field of maritime security», — emphasized Andrii Kashuba.
The parties also discussed strengthening the engineering protection of critical port infrastructure facilities, as well as enhancing air defense capabilities.
Special attention during the meeting was given to consolidating international support for Ukraine within the framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Andrii Kashuba emphasized the importance of maintaining a unified position during the upcoming vote for the Organization’s Council members at the end of November. The Ukrainian side called on its partners to prevent Russia’s return to Category A of this governing body, stressing that a state that violates international maritime law and commits crimes at sea cannot hold a high position in an international maritime institution responsible for ensuring global navigation safety.
